Centrica Energy, LUMA Energy and Alpha BESS AB sign optimisation agreement on 3.87MW Swedish battery energy storage system

July 4, 2025

Centrica Energy, LUMA Energy, and Alpha BESS AB are pleased to announce signing of a four-year battery optimisation agreement for a 3.87 MW / 4.13 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) The facility, developed by LUMA Energy and backed by investor Alpha BESS AB, is located in the SE3 bidding zone.

The BESS supports SE3 and adjoining regions by providing critical balancing services, helping to manage intermittency in renewable generation and enabling new revenue streams for surplus solar and wind power. We are very pleased to have firmed this agreement with our partners, that underscores the importance of collaboration between developers, investors, and trading partners in scaling battery infrastructure.” said Hugo Ringborg Larsson, Founder of LUMA Energy.

The agreement marks Centrica Energy’s first battery optimisation agreement in Sweden, and another step in Centrica’s growing Nordic battery portfolio. Under the agreement, Centrica Energy will provide route-to-market and optimisation services for the BESS, enabling participation initially in select ancillary service markets. The agreement leverages Centrica’s advanced optimisation platform, which enables real-time cross-market trading to maximise asset value and support grid flexibility.

This agreement reflects our continued commitment to accelerating the deployment of flexible energy assets across the Nordics. With increasing volumes of renewable generation and growing demand for grid stability, batteries like this one are essential to delivering a decarbonised, resilient energy system.” said Kristian Gjerløv-Juel, VP of Renewable Energy Trading & Optimisation at Centrica Energy.

As the financial backbone of the project, Alpha BESS AB plays a pivotal role in enabling the deployment of battery infrastructure. Their investment ensures the long-term viability of the site and helps meet demand for flexible energy assets across the Nordic region.

We’re proud to back this project as part of our commitment to accelerating the energy transition in the Nordics. Battery storage is a cornerstone of a resilient, low-carbon grid, and we see strong long-term value in supporting flexible infrastructure like this.” said Klas Gustafsson, Investment Director and Partner at Alpha BESS AB.
