Meet Our Energy Movers
Meet Laurids Frank
Lead Trader
Department: Intraday Power
Location: Denmark
Employed since: 2019
What made you make the move to Centrica Energy?
I was eager to gain hands-on experience in a field closely aligned with my studies. Centrica Energy offered the perfect environment for me to grow and advance beyond the classroom. Known for its strong pipeline of students with my background, Centrica Energy gave me real responsibilities and invaluable learning opportunities from day one. From there, my experience has only continued to evolve.
What does a Lead Trader do?
I’m an Intraday trader, so I trade the European wholesale power market on a 24/7-365 basis. It’s very short-term and often traded close to minutes before physical delivery. It’s speculative and based on live changes in wind and weather, analytics and market knowledge. Being a Lead Trader I also work closely with internal stakeholders from Trading Operations to Algorithmic Trading. The end goal is to create welfare by moving power to where it’s needed the most.

What’s your favourite thing about being an Energy Mover at Centrica Energy?
Trading is very unique as it’s based on “real-life” and there is a physical element of power delivery included. That means each day is different as markets can change drastically within a day or even in a matter of seconds. The rush of adrenaline you get from being able to successfully trade the markets with the team and create value is what drives me.
Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?
Personally. I’d say my development from being a student employee to a Lead Trader in a relatively short time span. On a more general note, I’m proud of the results we are continuously delivering as a team, including all the internal stakeholders.
Ultimately, I’m part of moving energy, from where there is a surplus to where it’s most needed. The rush of adrenaline you get from being able to successfully trade the markets with the team and create value is what drives me.
