What made you make the move to Centrica Energy?
I joined Centrica Energy 10+ yeas ago when it was a much smaller, UK centric business unit, responsible for optimising gas and power sales and purchases on behalf of the other Centrica business units. I was attracted to working in a FTSE100 company with lots of opportunities to move around and grow my career. Much has changed over the last decade and Centrica Energy is now at the forefront of Renewable Energy trading in Europe, has a global LNG business, is successful in Gas and Power Trading as well as being responsible for optimising and risk managing on behalf of the Centrica Group.

What does a Finance Director do?
I lead the finance team in the UK, which covers financial reporting & control, finance business partnering and business performance monitoring. Being in finance, the work revolves around the monthly cycle to report our financial results to the Centrica Group, as well as preparing robust financial forecasts and monitoring our performance against this.

What’s your favourite thing about being an Energy Mover at Centrica Energy?
My job allows me to work closely and collaborate with other people and I really enjoy the inclusive culture. Centrica Energy is committed to flexible working which allows me to juggle my parental responsibilities with advancing my career.

Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?
Every time we announce our financial results to the market I feel proud of the contribution that the finance team has played.

What’s your best advice for someone wanting to make the move and join the energy industry?
Try to get as broad an experience as possible before finding your niche. Start by exploring all the different opportunities the industry offers and find out exactly where and how you thrive.

What should someone dreaming of becoming an Energy Mover know about Centrica Energy?
Being the Centrica Women’s Network Chapter lead I’m passionate about creating greater and more equal gender diversity and supporting women to be the best they can. By having a diverse team, you have diverse ideas and can problem solve more effectively.
