What made you make the move to Centrica Energy?

The rotational nature of the program, and the quality of the discussions I had when I came to Aalborg for the interviews made me choose Centrica Energy. 


What do you do in your current rotation?

I am in the Intraday Physical Trading Analytics team. The team provides tools, analysis, and strategies to support the intraday power asset trading. For the first part of my rotation I have mainly worked on batteries on the different auxiliary balancing services in different countries. This includes backtesting strategies, market analysis and bid activation analysis. 

The best part of being a graduate at Centrica Energy is the people and the exposure you get early on. Everyone is approachable and genuinely willing to teach you, which makes it easy to learn and ask questions.

The best part of being a graduate at Centrica Energy is the people and the exposure you get early on. Everyone is approachable and genuinely willing to teach you, which makes it easy to learn and ask questions. The opportunity to rotate across the UK, Denmark and Belgium gives you international exposure and a broad understanding of the business. 

 

Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?

One achievement I’m particularly proud of is having already delivered analyses for my team that provide valuable insights and can be used to inform wider business decisions on batteries. In parallel, I’ve built strong relationships with my colleagues, which has helped me collaborate effectively and contribute more confidently to the team. 

 

 

What’s your best advice for someone wanting to make the move and join the graduate programme?

My best advice for someone wanting to join the graduate program is to be curious and proactive. Try to understand the industry by talking to professionals already working in the field and reading about it. DTU’s online course on Renewables in Electricity Markets and BTU’s online course Energy Trading, Portfolio and Risk Management really helped me prepare and build a strong foundation before starting the program. Finally, speak with current graduates to gain a better understanding of the program and the opportunities it offers. 

 

What should someone dreaming of becoming an Energy Mover know about Centrica Energy?

They should know that Centrica Energy is part of Centrica, which owns British Gas. In that sense, Centrica Energy is part of an integrate Energy company operating across the entire energy value chain, from generation and trading to supplying gas and electricity to homes and businesses.
