What made you make the move to Centrica Energy?

Being in the Colleague Communications team gives you a unique opportunity to support different business units within Centrica, and I have been lucky enough to partner Centrica Energy since I started in the organisation. I was always looking to be part of a fast-paced environment as this is a space in which I personally thrive. What does a Senior Colleague Communications Manager do?

As a Senior Colleague Communications Manager, it is my job to connect colleagues across the business to our purpose and strategy through impactful communications that strengthen understanding, belief and pride. We do this using a variety of different tactics, across multiple channels. The goal is to simplify, making it easy for colleagues to understand what we want to achieve, the progress we are making and how it connects to their role.​

What’s your favourite thing about being an Energy Mover at Centrica Energy?
The people. The culture here is dynamic but grounded. There is space for authenticity and curiosity. I feel like I can bring my whole self to work, contribute meaningfully and still be challenged to grow. That combination of belonging and ambition is rare in my experience, and it’s the people I work with that make that possible.


Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?

We did some work last year to recognise our colleagues and took a creative approach to it. It was fun, and created genuine joy. That was great to be a part of. We have such a high degree of responsibility in Centrica Energy, due to the nature of what we do and the position we play in the broader Centrica Group. It’s not uncommon for the brilliant successes we achieve every day to become business as usual. So it was nice to pull people away from that, do something fun and have a laugh along the way.

 

What’s your best advice for someone wanting to make the move and join the energy industry?

I think the energy industry is one of the most pivotal spaces to be in right now. There is so much opportunity. If I were to give advice, I would say to start by understanding the landscape: where we are, what’s changing, what are the emerging trends and consider where your skills could add the most value. As I say there is opportunity, but the industry is broad – Centrica Group is a great example of just how broad as we manage each part of the chain. So take the time to research the different areas and find where your interests and skillset aligns.
