What made you make the move to Centrica Energy?
I joined Centrica Energy seeking a purposeful career path. The opportunity to work in a global business, where I could tackle practical challenges related to the renewable transition while being at the forefront of technology, drew me in. What made me stay was the unwavering support and genuine care from my managers and colleagues, fostering my personal growth and development.

 

What does a Senior Forecasting Analyst do?
I am a Senior Forecasting Analyst at Centrica Energy, and I have a PhD in atmospheric physics and a true love for the elements.  Most people might be surprised that someone with my background ends up working with Energy trading, but for me, it makes perfect sense.  My role is a balance between operational and analytical forecasting for all assets in our renewable portfolio across Europe. It currently covers wind, solar, hydro, CHP (combined heat and power) and consumption, with new technologies expected in the future. This gives me the unique position of being in touch with the markets and our business direction as well as being on the cutting edge of research.

What’s your favourite thing about being an Energy Mover at Centrica Energy?
For me it’s important to be a part of a team and an organisation that works together towards the same goal and purpose. I love how my days are a mix of software development, forecasting and meetings with our energy traders and stakeholders and that my work contributes to make our asset forecasts more accurate for our energy traders and to ultimately make energy more affordable.

 

Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?
One of my proudest projects is our model forecast framework. Our mission was to optimize forecasts for 2,500+ renewable assets. We tackled challenges head-on, embraced new technology, and transitioned to the cloud. The collaborative spirit within our team and with many others within the business has fuelled our progress. Now, we eagerly await the tangible impact our framework will make.

What’s your best advice for someone wanting to make the move and join the energy industry?
The advice I would give to someone wanting to build a career in energy trading is multifaceted. First and foremost, gain hands-on experience. Work in the field, understand market dynamics, and learn from those in the industry. Second, stay informed. Follow energy news, global policies, and technological advancements. Lastly, embrace the future. Be excited about the evolving energy landscape—it’s a dynamic field with immense potential!
