What made you make the move to Centrica Energy?

The culture. Centrica Energy is unique in that the culture is that of a small nimble start up, but within a corporate giant! Having such a flat structure means you can collaborate, network and innovate by simply walking around the office. Which is a real plus.

 

What does Head of UK Power trading do?

I run a team of seven traders and analysts who are the market facing entity for the hedging of our retail and industrial customer base. In addition to this we look to add value through risk management and trading solutions based on fundamental analysis and research.

Centrica Energy is innovative, inclusive and nimble. Anyone looking for a start in a career in Energy couldn’t find a better place to start their energy journey!

What’s your favourite thing about being an Energy Mover at Centrica Energy?

Being surrounded by like minded and energised people, keen to succeed and with a genuine curiosity about how we, within Centrica, can energise a cleaner, fairer future for all.

 

Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?

Introducing the football charity,  Charity Boots to Centrica! Charity boots collect and refurbish old, pre-loved football boots and send them around the world to children less fortunate who, in some cases, have never owned a pair of boots despite their deep love of the beautiful game! Only because Centrica’s has a community based, open minded ethos enabled me to do this.

 

What’s your best advice for someone wanting to make the move and join the energy industry?

Be persistent! The energy industry becomes more and more competitive every year. To succeed you will need lots of energy (no pun intended!), humility and a thick skin. You WILL get knocked back but that is all part of the journey. Keep on trying and you can get there.
