A friend of mine recommended Centrica Energy to me, and I immediately got hooked by the interesting business, the international environment, and the work-life balance.


What does a Manager – Trade Support Green Desk do?
In Trade Support, we are supporting the traders in all administrative tasks. This entails creating contracts, capturing the trades in our ETRM system, and registering/delivering certificates. We also help setting up new products and new markets. Next to the business as usual, I am working on automating tasks as much as possible to decrease operational risk and help making the business more scalable.

 

I love that I can directly see how my work helps the business expand and reduce operational risks. Furthermore, I appreciate that no day is the same.

What’s your favourite thing about being an Energy Mover at Centrica Energy?
I love that I can directly see how my work helps the business expand and reduce operational risks. Furthermore, I appreciate that no day is the same.

 

Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?
Only a few months after I started, I was responsible in my team for the migration from one ETRM system to another. This involved explaining all our processes in detail, expressing our needs for the new system, help creating it, and performing tests.


What’s your best advice for someone wanting to make the move and join the energy industry?
Since there is no specific education for energy trading, it does not really matter what your background is. It is more important that you are motivated, curious, a quick learner, have a flair for numbers, and that you are self-driven. If you would like to stand out, It is important to think outside the box and bring in your own ideas.


What should someone dreaming of becoming an Energy Mover know about Centrica Energy?
Centrica Energy is putting a lot of focus on developing and supporting talent within the company. I have only had great managers which haven given me all the support needed, as well as the responsibility.
