What made you make the move to Centrica Energy?
Centrica’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and their relentless efforts to incorporate more green energy into the power grid were key factors that led me to choose the company. Recognizing the significant challenges posed by climate change, Centrica is dedicated to achieving net-zero status, which resonated deeply with my own values. I also gained the impression that Centrica places a strong emphasis on its people, valuing inclusion and diversity.


What does a Software Developer do?
As a software developer, I have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and I am accountable for designing and implementing new systems or features for existing systems. Additionally, I am entrusted with the task of maintaining our current systems. I am in close communication with our customers, collaborating closely with them to ensure their needs are met effectively. I am also an agile facilitator and in collaboration with other agile facilitators I strive to ensure that the department operates efficiently and advances on the agile path.

What’s your favourite thing about being an Energy Mover at Centrica Energy?
I am involved in a variety of projects, but the ones I take the most pride in are those where I can directly witness their impact. This includes developing software utilized in trading or creating tools that streamline and automate trading-related tasks.

 

Can you tell us about an achievement you’re proud of?
On a daily basis, I engage in a diverse range of projects, and I take great pride in my ability to effectively juggle them. Over the course of nearly two years, I have honed my skills and am able to work on multiple projects concurrently, even when they span across various business areas and technologies.


What’s your best advice for someone wanting to make the move and join the energy industry?
One vital piece of advice for building a career in the energy industry is to overcome any initial apprehensions. The energy sector may seem daunting to someone unfamiliar with it but remember that industry knowledge is acquired over time. Stay open to learning and never hesitate to ask questions. Inquisitiveness is key.


What should someone dreaming of becoming an Energy Mover know about Centrica Energy?
As a female in a male-dominated industry, my experience has been a mix of empowerment and challenges. Being part of a minority can sometimes make me feel isolated, but I feel fortunate to work at a company that has such a strong focus on diversity and supporting minorities.
