Centrica Energy and UrbanChain have signed a corporate Power Purchase Agreement (cPPA) to supply UrbanChain with renewable electricity from a UK onshore wind farm. The agreement strengthens the companies’ commitment to supporting the UK energy transition and provides UrbanChain with access to renewable power while reducing exposure to market volatility.

The onshore wind farm located in Cambridgeshire delivers approximately 26.5 GWh of renewable electricity per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 6,500 UK households.

As a trusted counterparty to both investors and end-users, Centrica Energy structures corporate PPAs that manage price risk, enhance revenue stability and support the delivery of ambitious sustainability strategies. Its integrated approach, spanning generation offtake, flexibility optimisation, and data-driven hedging, enables existing wind and solar assets to be unlocked for corporate consumers in ways that strengthen decarbonisation pathways while supporting a more resilient energy system.

Working with UrbanChain is a great example of how innovative commercial models can bring renewable energy directly to corporate consumers. This agreement demonstrates how existing UK wind assets can be successfully integrated into corporate PPA structures that support sustainable sourcing strategies. We are proud to support UrbanChain’s ambition to provide affordable, transparent, renewable power to its customers.

By adding further UK-based renewable volume through agreements with major, investment-grade European renewable generators and asset managers, UrbanChain can continue scaling its data-driven model of matching renewable generation and customer demand by time and location. This enhances market balance, supports transparent and verifiable carbon outcomes, and strengthens UrbanChain’s ability to serve high-demand sectors such as data centres, EV charging networks, and other energy-intensive infrastructure.

Working with Centrica Energy strengthens UrbanChain’s ability to procure renewable power that is directly traceable to a specific asset and match it with local end users. This partnership reflects Centrica's forward-thinking approach as a large, established utility actively embracing new market models. We're delighted to have our first agreement in place and look forward to building on this collaboration.

Corporate PPAs play an important role in accelerating decarbonisation by ensuring stable revenue streams for renewable generation projects while giving corporate consumers certainty on both price and carbon footprint.
