Centrica Energy has secured ISCC Trader with Storage certification, enabling the company to trade certified Bio LNG with customers and meet growing demand for verifiable, sustainable gas solutions across international markets. Issued under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system, the certification confirms that Centrica Energy meets strict requirements on sustainability, traceability, and chain of custody, ensuring that sustainability attributes are credibly documented and transferred throughout the value chain.
The certification brings together two established strengths within Centrica Energy: its biomethane origination and trading business across the UK and Europe, and its global LNG trading and market access capabilities. By combining renewable gas expertise with international LNG trading, Centrica Energy can support certified Bio LNG supply chains spanning liquefaction, storage, and cross-border trading.
The ISCC certification strengthens Centrica Energy’s ability to serve two key markets for Bio LNG: the maritime fuel market and the road transport fuel market. In both sectors, LNG is already an established fuel, and Bio LNG provides a practical pathway to reducing lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions without requiring changes to existing engines or fuel systems. Certified Bio LNG also helps customers address a growing set of regulatory and compliance requirements, including FuelEU Maritime obligations, sustainability targets under the EU Renewable Energy Directive, and emissions compliance under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
At the same time, the certification enables Centrica Energy to offer compliant Bio LNG at any ISCC-certified LNG terminal across the European Union through a virtual liquefaction route. This provides customers with flexible access to certified Bio LNG while ensuring compliance with recognised certification frameworks and full traceability across trading and storage operations.
ISCC is a globally recognised certification system covering sustainable biomass, biofuels, and renewable gases. The Trader with Storage scope confirms that certified products are handled in accordance with ISCC’s mass balance and traceability rules, ensuring that sustainability characteristics are preserved across trading and storage operations.
The certification builds on Centrica Energy’s broader strategy to support the energy transition through renewable gases, flexibility, and market‑based solutions, helping customers reduce emissions while maintaining security of supply.
