The first LNG cargo has arrived in Honduras under Centrica Energy's long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Exodus, marking the operational start of a project that will support the country's energy transition and strengthen energy security across the region.
The cargo represents the first delivery under the agreement signed in November 2025, under which Centrica Energy will supply approximately six LNG cargoes per year. LNG deliveries will be made through a ship-to-ship operation into the Floating Storage Unit (FSU) Bilbao Knutsen in Puerto Cortes, creating the foundation for Honduras' first-ever natural gas imports for power generation.
The LNG will supply the Brassavola Combined Cycle Power Plant, which currently operates with a capacity of 150 MW and is being expanded to 240 MW through the construction of a combined cycle facility. The project marks an important milestone in diversifying Honduras' energy mix and reducing reliance on more carbon-intensive fuels.
Once fully operational, the FSU will serve as the backbone of LNG storage infrastructure for a new terminal currently under development on Honduras' Caribbean coast. Together, the facilities are expected to improve energy security, enhance generation efficiency and support industrial development in the country.
Beyond Honduras, the project is also significant for the wider Central American region. It demonstrates how access to global LNG markets can help countries strengthen energy resilience while supporting economic growth and the integration of cleaner and more efficient energy sources.
Honduras is among the countries most exposed to the impacts of climate change, making reliable and efficient energy infrastructure increasingly important. Natural gas can play a key role in supporting the transition by providing flexible generation capacity, strengthening security of supply and creating a platform for long-term growth while renewable energy deployment continues to expand.
The arrival of the first cargo marks the transition from agreement to delivery and highlights Centrica Energy's commitment to connecting customers with global energy markets through its LNG trading and optimisation capabilities.
